Calendula Officinalis (Calendula)

Calendula is one of nature’s many herbs that stimulates the healing of skin. Infusions and tinctures,  can be made at home to treat eczema, acne, abrasions, ulcers or as a mouthwash.

A soothing calendula tea can be made for a sore mouth, throat, stomach ulcers and also for menstrual cramp relief. A fantastic anti-inflammatory, sitz baths can be made with calendula for relief of hemorrhoids and other swelling issues.

Calendula is gentle enough to use for diaper rash and yet still powerful enough to also fight pesky problems like athlete’s foot and pink eye. Other common ailments that calendula is used for but not limited to are fleas, fevers, hot spots, ring worms, earaches and ear mites, so as one can guess, yes it’s pet friendly as well.

The health benefits of calendula are many and it is definitely one all around herb that is worth keeping stocked in the cupboard.

WebMD lists possible side effects for calendula that include not taking while pregnant or nursing, in addition to not taking before or after surgery because the sleep properties can interact with other medications.
